<10/26/2022] 10/29/2022 - area of Florida & Yukon [10/31/2022>When you go out with no preconceived subject or even better have no idea what you have to work with then an image like this along the post processing isn't bad at all. Nothing to say except that maybe the lone object was the subject, either way I included it. The focus was off but the exposure and overall composition I intended worked out, embrace happy accidents. The larger element of the drainage ditch was what I saw but looking to the side it was the pattern of pipes and crossovers for roads going into the yards that caught my eye. <10/29/2022] 10/31/2022 - Clements & Grant [11/01/2022>La Cubanita Lincoln & Clements - Not the newest elements of Odessa but I like the look of age. Within the area of Clements is part of the drainage system that leads into the draw at I-20. Lincoln & Midland [Back to Top] [Back to Current Projects] [Back to Galleries] [Back to Main Page] |
<10/31/2022] 11/01/2022 - Dominion Plaza [11/02/2022>When I say Dominion Plaza it isn't exactly the subject of the session but elements around the businesses themselves, the subjects that catch my eye are not always the most obivious one. The drainage system along Faundre Rd had more potential and it there I started exploring the plaza. Walking down into the channel and looking under the bridge this scene caught my eye. Beauty can be found anywhere if sought out. Back in the parking lot a shadow on this litte building struck me as somewhat abstract in nature. Final image I took was of some vegetation between two stores but the direct light made this angle not desirable; however, viewed from the back at an angle against that wall the stone was in the right place. <11/01/2022] 11/02/2022 - Avoiding road work [11/03/2022>Road construction in Odessa put me on an alternate route and I found these buildings I photographed instead of my original target. 19th & Sam Houston - 1 of 3 19th & Sam Houston - 2 of 3 19th & Sam Houston - 3 of 3 19th & Lee [Back to Top] [Back to Current Projects] [Back to Galleries] [Back to Main Page] |
<11/02/2022] 11/03/2022 - Comanche Trail Park [11/04/2022>Nature can found through out the city in pockets and random places but this park provides a place to be more fully immersed, if I can overlook the trash and sounds around them it is possible. Life continues on around it and when found its beauty and wonders are worth the effort. The natural draw and pocket forest is that bit of nature and rest I seek out. The amazement of finding images through the city on a daily basis is perhaps the other part of the challenge but both parts make photography enjoyable. Enjoy a bit of nature. Man made fishing pond with some very spoiled geese and ducks. An arrangement of trees. Looking across from pocket forest over the draw to the pocket forest on the other side. The seed pods s what caught my eye. The ground beneath us is full of life if you stop and look for it. It seems like a long time ago but once I sought and photographed insects combing through vegetation to find them, habits change but the appreciation of the hidden doesn't. A channel following along a water pipe isn't natural but nature adapts and along this bank and tree roots I found a view of the draw. The haze of the afternoon light is seen in the image but imagine yourself in that water by a tree sheltered from it. [Back to Top] [Back to Current Projects] [Back to Galleries] [Back to Main Page] |
<11/03/2022] 11/04/2022 - area of 87th & Loop 338 [11/06/2022>Evans Blvd & 87th - This is a new shopping center under construction but when I took this image I was attempting to capture the winds effect. Not sure I succeeded but the image worked in other ways. One can attempt to "control" the process but sometimes the image wants to tell another story. Loop 338 & 87th - This area is more like a truck stop but the winds effect was captured here at least on this fragment of the scene. 81st & Andrews hwy - Driving back home I got on the side road to see what I could photograph along the way, this caught my eye. <11/04/2022] 11/06/2022 - Closer to home [11/08/2022>I explored along Andrews Hwy across from What-A-Burger instead of the far flung reaches of Odessa. It is the old and unused I am drawn to, in this case a former car wash. Wondering the alleys and parking lots one finds a bit of nature. This is someones home so I will not say where it is but the scene you see caught my eye. I composed this in the field as a square composition I would later crop down to from the larger image captured. I find the post processing or technique going to be used influence what I capture as the raw data, the initial click of the shutter is just the beginning. Looking across the street at Sonic a composion presented itself so I made it to the other side quick as possible. What I found closer in wasn't the same but something worked out instead. Often the initial reason doesn't turn out as expected but places you in the right spot for other opportunities. [Back to Top] [Back to Current Projects] [Back to Galleries] [Back to Main Page] |
<11/06/2022] 11/08/2022 - N County Rd W & 2nd [11/10/2022>When surrounded by such "beauty" you have to start somewhere, seriously though this caught my eye and was the first shot of the session. In an area that is industrial beauty can be found, maybe beauty is more subjective though. Lines, shapes, textures brought out in post processing is what the photographer in me sees here, not the junk. It appears when the building went up for sale the flags got left behind as well. I didn't get the name of this building but it was this profile I wanted anyways. In back of the Dollar General I was able to get this point of view of these buildings. <11/08/2022] 11/10/2022 - Comanche Trail Park [11/12/2022>The park is spread between I-20 and a side road where I got this shot. This is a case of looking down and seeing the mushrooms growing. To the right you have a pocket forest and on the left a city park but that overpass has been used for nice shots in the past. Always remember to look up, this abstract against the sky caught my eye. Post processing helped to create this effect greater. This image found me just as I was about to leave a Family Dollar, it is a case of either taking it when you can or moving on. I took the shot. <11/10/2022] 11/12/2022 - Down to the last hour [11/14/2022>see also While the city sleeps for 2 more images.Photography seems to be about luck and timing as much as anything else and it was at 11:14pm of this days challenge I got these images. I was getting out of work so before I left took some images in front and walked around the now less than busy roads. I split the set I took to While the city sleeps as well as those images fit that theme better. A building this size acts like a blank canvas to receive the shadows cast by the trees from the various artificial lights. I had another shot I composed but a slanted image isn't ideal and somehow being able to see those trees takes away from the mystery.
